Casemiro's Manchester United shirt no. revealed?

With Manchester United having agreed a deal with Real Madrid for Casemiro's signature, the midfielder's new shirt number has now reportedly been revealed.

The Red Devils are understood to be on the brink of completing their reported £59.5 million (R1.1 billion) deal for the five-time UEFA Champions League winner.

The Brazil star has already completed a medical ahead of his move to Old Trafford, but visa issues initially stunted United's hopes of unveiling the 30-year-old before their next league game against Liverpool.

Per Spanish outlet Marca, though, Casemiro will say goodbye to Real Madrid fans, staff and teammates in a press conference on Monday before he travels to England, where he is expected to be in attendance to watch his new team play against Jurgen Klopp's side.

It is further claimed that United plan to present Casemiro as their newest player at Old Trafford on Monday night, and hope to complete the deal as quickly as possible in order for him to be available for their Premier League match against Southampton this Saturday.

According to the Metro, the South American will be given the club's No. 18 shirt, a number that was previously worn by Bruno Fernandes before he changed to the No. 8 jersey in July.

In his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, Casemiro wore both the No. 38 and No. 16 shirts before sticking with the No. 14 since 2015.

However, midfielder Christian Eriksen, who joined Erik ten Hag's side in July, has already taken the No. 14 that was vacated by Jesse Lingard, who has since joined Nottingham Forest.

Speaking ahead of the match against Liverpool on Monday night, Ten Hag revealed that his team's lack of a defensive midfielder added to their disappointing start to the 2022/23 campaign.

"I think we had a good basic pre-season, but then our number nine [Anthony] Martial was injured and Ronny [Cristiano Ronaldo] is not fit," the 52-year-old explained, per the Metro.

"The 'six' in holding midfield is not there.

"First game, we had the two in defence who had never played with each other and the goalkeeper was also not the best in this period.

"There is a clear reason why.

"But I know we will fix that and I know that we will be better and the results will show this. It has been shown in pre-season."
