Premier League match report Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur 14 August 2022

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur played to a thrilling 2-2 draw in an ill-tempered Premier League clash on Sunday evening.

Spurs were unchanged from the win over Southampton, as the Blues gave recent signing Marc Cucrella a debut and started Robin Loftus-Cheek too following the win at Everton.

Chelsea were first out of the starting blocks after new boy Kalidou Koulibaly found space in the area before 20 minutes and volleyed home a corner-kick by fellow new boy Cucurella.

The visitors targeted a swift response through moves from a tight angle around the box by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Ryan Sessegnon, but the Blues covered their tracks.

Koulibaly looked for a brace minutes apart through an acrobatic volley from a loose clearance by Eric Dier following Mason Mount's corner-kick, but the Senegalese international went over.

Here are the latest transfers that were confirmed this week!

Spurs were revived after halftime and came close to the equalizer when a curling ball from Harry Kane saw Heung -Min Son take control and forced a save off goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Changes from the Spurs bench was the next port of call in the hope of a comeback and had big off-season signing Richarlison come on for Sessegnon.

The Blues should've made it two 62 minutes in when Raheem Sterling cut an angle in the area only to fire over target with the goal in sight.

Spurs remained calm six minutes later and equalised following a low rasping shot through a crowded number of players by Hojbjerg following a possession turnover.

The Blues didn't lose shape and went on to regain the lead through a close-range finish by Reece James from a teasing shot on the cusp of the area by Sterling.

Chelsea began to sat deep in order to absorb the pressure and it back-fired at the death when Spurs levelled after Kane tucked in a corner by Ivan Perisic and saw the spoils shared.
