Wydad 'worried' about ref chosen for crunch AFL 2nd leg vs Downs

Mamelodi Sundowns' African Football League final opponents Wydad Casablanca are reportedly concerned about the referee CAF have appointed for the second leg of the crunch decider.

This coming weekend, the curtains will draw close on African club football's newest spectacle, and the Moroccan giants will be looking to get a positive result in Tshwane after their narrow 2-1 victory in the first leg of the final in a bid to be crowned the first-ever AFL champions.

African football's governing body, in conjunction with FIFA, has decided to assign officiating duties for the auspicious occasion to Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala.

According to Kooora, however, this decision has left Wydad concerned, because while the Red Castle have never lost a match in which Ndala has been in charge, the Botola Pro League giants still harbour some bad feelings about their last match in which he was the referee.

Coincidentally, that game also took place in South Africa. It was the second leg of the 2020/21 CAF Champions League semi-final against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.

Wydad were eliminated from the competition after the encounter with the Glamour Boys ended 0-0, and the north African outfit felt they should have been awarded multiple penalties in that tie.

The record Moroccan top-flight winners felt so aggrieved by the officiating back then that they even sent a letter to CAF to protest some of the decisions Ndala made during that match, stating that they should have been awarded at least three penalties.

This will be the second time the Congolese international takes charge of a match between the two sides, with the first having taken place during the 2019/20 Champions League group stage in Casablanca, which ended 0-0.
