Insider: Swallows ready for next match

Despite the release of numerous players, Moroka Swallows are understood to be ready to resume the DStv Premiership next month.

It emerged recently that the chairperson of the Dube Birds' disciplinary committee has recommended that the club dismiss 22 players who undertook strike action, which led to the club failing to honour their league fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.

Players accused the the Birds of failing to pay their December salaries before Christmas, with the PSL issued Swallows a fine of R1 million, of which R600 000 was suspended. Both games were recorded as walk-overs.

However, new information has emerged from within the Swallows camp, with a high-ranking source informing KickOff that the club will be ready for its clash against Cape Town City in February.

Ahead of the clash against the Citizens in Cape Town, Swallows are believed to be ready to field a total of 12 players for the clash.

"At the moment, Swallows are left with only 12 players who will be able to come back to the club or if nobody appeals," a source tells KickOff.

Indications are that a total of 32 players were put forward to the disciplinary committee, but only 22 players are represented by the South African Football Players Union (SAFPU). It is believed that the other 10 players have private representation or none at all.

Sources have revealed that players could look to appeal the outcome of the DC chairperson's recommendations, while some are understood to have opted to refrain from the process.

Swallows will resume their Premiership season with the clash against City on Tuesday 13 February.
