Nedbank or Top 8: Which hill is Chiefs willing to die on?

Hot on the heels of an uninspiring draw against Chippa United, Kaizer Chiefs have been advised to put all their eggs in one basket as they focus on two fronts in the business end of the season.

Chiefs' 0-0 draw against Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday saw the side stagnate in eighth place on the Betway Premiership log.

On the evidence of the performance, Nasreddine Nabi's men could stand accused of having an eye on the Nedbank Cup final, where they take on old rivals Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 10.

Lifa Gqosha, a definition of wisdom and leadership during his days donning the famous Gold and Black jersey, believes the quest for silverware should, at this stage, take priority.

"The boys really tried against Chippa United on Saturday. There were some good touches, and at least there was improvement," notes the ex-defender.

"At this stage, it doesn't matter where they finish on the league table, as long as they win the Nedbank Cup. That victory would alleviate the pressure of not having won a trophy in a long time.

"You can finish in the Top Eight, but that doesn't guarantee any silverware. What is important now is to be remembered as the group of players who ended the club's 10-year trophy drought.

"This season has been tough for Chiefs, but it's crucial not to dwell too much on that, while still developing and rebuilding the team."

Amakhosi are next up against Marumo Gallants at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
