Where is Bafana hopeful Kgaogelo Chauke?

Bafana Bafana hopeful Kgaogelo Chauke appears to be finally making his mark in English football.

The central midfielder rose to prominence at Southampton, where he began in youth development before signing a professional contract in 2020.

Chauke made his debut for the first team against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup in January 2021. However, he faced challenges in securing a spot in the senior team due to limited playing time.

The 22-year-old was subsequently loaned out to Exeter City FC in English League One during the 2022/23 season.

After returning to the Saints in May 2023, he was permanently released two months later.

Kegs, as the South Africa U23 player is affectionately known has since joined another League One club Burton Albion FC as he aims to advance his career in England. In the first campaign, Chauke made 8 appearances but this season, he has bounced back and played 34 matches with one goal as the midfielder has become a key figure for his current side.

Interestingly, the South African-born star's current contract expires on June 30 and there has been no reports in England of a contract renewal as things stand.

At one point in recent years, Chauke was reported to have attracted interest from several top clubs, including Manchester City but any talk of that appears to be far-fetched now.
