Kekana weighs in on Campbell to Downs links

Mamelodi Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana has warned against SuperSport United rising star Shandre Campbell moving to Chloorkop.

The talismanic 18-year-old has been a revelation for Matsatsantsa this season, scoring a brace to help his side progress to the last eight of the Nedbank Cup with a 3-1 win over Richards Bay.

Campbell's form has reportedly attacked interest from across town at Sundowns, who over the years, have moved swiftly to swoop on some of Matsatsantsa's brightest talents.

These include Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana, Teboho Mokoena and most recently Thapelo Maseko who completed a big-money move to Downs before the start of the new season.

"We are talking about an 18-year-old," Kekana said.

"We cannot give him that responsibility of leading a team as massive as SuperSport so let's be honest. He still needs a lot of work to do in terms of his game and the consistency of his performances in the league if he wants to among the best players.

"So, for me to be talking about him, I can talk about his performance at the things he does but I don't see him being the complete player yet.

"For me, if he wants to improve, he must go overseas. That's where he is going to be nurtured. Not here at home (to Sundowns), because if he moves from SuperSport to Sundowns he is still in the same league."

Meanwhile, SuperSport have been drawn against Stellenbosch in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup.
