'It's mischievous' - AmaZulu boss addresses Hanamub to Pirates rumours

AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has explained Namibian international Riaan Hanamub's situation at the club.

According to reports, the fullback has signed with Orlando Pirates and will be joining them at the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

The 29-year-old has proved to be a great acquisition for Usuthu since joining from Chippa United in July 2022.

From the 27 appearances he has made for AmaZulu this season, the left-back has scored one goal and provided his teammates with three assists.

Hanamub was also part of the Namibia national team that took part in the African Cup Of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Ironically, AmaZulu and Pirates do battle in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The two sides will also come up against each other other a week later, this time under the DStv Premiership banner.

Asked about Hanamub, Zungu rubbished the reports linking one of his trusted players with an exit.

"I don't know anything about Hanamub going to Pirates, no one from Pirates has spoken to me," Zungu tells KickOff.

"Hanamub still has an existing contract with the team. It doesn't even end now, it goes beyond next season.

"And for the record, this is not true, it's a lie.

"What I don't understand is why this story is coming up now when we are playing against Orlando Pirates.

"People might be trying to destabilize my team, hence this is only coming up now on the eve of an important game.

"It's mischievous that people are starting stories about my player joining a team I will be playing against."
