Pirates humble Stellenbosch in Diski title race

Stellenbosch FC 1-2 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates engineered a late response to pick up a 2-1 victory over league leaders Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Diski Challenge on Sunday.

With no goals scored in the first period, the Maroons nestled out the opener through a cleverly taken finish from Quwan Plaatjies and set the host well on their way.

Pirates never-say-die attitude rose to the fore in the final minutes as substitute Mehluleli Maphumulo netted a brace within quick succession and ensured victory for the Soweto giants.

Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 AmaZulu

Kaizer Chiefs moved level on points with the table-toppers Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Diski Challenge after bagging a thrilling 3-2 victory over AmaZulu on Saturday.

The tough start to the season continues for Usuthu with four successive defeats currently, as the Amakhosi ensured their fine opening to the campaign.

Goals from Matala Makhubo, Vicky Mkhawana and Neo Bohloko steered the boys of Dillon Sheppard to maximum points in the end.

Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 Golden Arrows

Mamelodi Sundowns got back to winning ways to maintain third-place on the table and pace with the front-runners following a 3-0 drubbing off Golden Arrows.

Abafana Besthende, who just carved out their maiden win of the season last weekend over Magesi FC, now been pegged back by the contenders for the title.

The damage were done in the first spell where a double from Ntokozo Siquba and a finish from Tshiamo Masisi secured maximum points for Surprise Moriri and co.

SuperSport United 5-3 Richards Bay FC

SuperSport United secured back-to-back victories to maintain touching distance with the pace-setters following a 5-3 victory over Richards Bay FC.

The loss see the Natal Rich Boys' seven-match winless run come to an end, as efforts from Keenan Bezuidenhout, a brace each from Thabang Mahlangu and Thabang Makhubo gave United victory.

For the Natal Rich Boys, a double from Thandolwethu Dube and single strike by Sithembiso Makhaye aided them to find the net but it proved immaterial in the end.

Magesi FC 1-2 Cape Town City

Cape Town City's promising start to the season remained on track after recording a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the league's debutants Magesi FC.

The Citizens, who were involved in a nine-goal thriller last weekend, remained in the top-half bracket following the win as Magesi with just a single victory languish towards the lower tier.

Polokwane City 3-1 Marumo Gallants FC

Marumo Gallants FC dropped into the bottom-two and remained winless following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Polokwane City in Limpopo.

The defeat leaves the visiting team as the only team yet to record a win after ten matches played with only three points from three stalemates recorded.

Rise and Shine, though, managed only their second victory of the season to remain in the mid-table bracket – a few points shy off the top eight.

TS Galaxy 2-1 Chippa United

TS Galaxy's registered a third consecutive victory and continued their turn in fortunes after overcoming Chippa United 2-1.

With yet another defeat to their name, the Chilli Boys remain closer to the drop zone and actually just two points adrift the winless Marumo Gallants FC.
