However, their continental form in the CAF Champions League has been far more promising, as they currently top Group D with two victories and a draw from their opening three games.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will demand similar from the Tunisian outfit, as they aim to progress beyond the group stages and make an indelible mark on the tournament.
It presents a unique opportunity for the North African side to showcase their mettle, with Group D offering a stern test against Brazilian giants CR Flamengo, Mexican heavyweights Club Leon, and English Premier League contenders Chelsea FC.
Former star Montassar Talbi has thrown his support behind his old club, expressing confidence in their ability to shine on football's biggest stage.
"It's an honour to see them competing in such a prestigious tournament," Talbi told FIFA.com per CAFonline.
"Esperance thrives under pressure, and I'm confident they'll deliver strong performances in the USA."
Shifting focus to his own ambitions, the Tunisia international has his eyes set on helping the Carthage Eagles qualify for what woud be their third consecutive FIFA World Cup appearance at the 2026 edition of the competition.
The 26-year-old, who now plies his trade with French Ligue 2 side FC Lorient, is determined to help Tunisia break new ground by advancing past the group stage for the first time in their history.
As the qualifiers resume in March, Talbi's optimism remains undimmed.
"We've got tricky away games ahead, but our eyes are firmly set on the prize. Qualifying for a third straight World Cup would be a massive achievement and give us the experience needed to break past the group stage."
