EPL club 'makes decision' on Mourinho appointment

A Premier League club has reportedly made a decision regarding the potential appointment of Jose Mourinho.

A vacancy has opened in the Premier League after Everton sacked their manager, Sean Dyche, on Thursday. The decision was announced just hours before the Toffees played an FA Cup game against Peterborough.

Although the timing of the sacking surprised some, the writing always seemed to be on the wall for the Englishman, as Everton had won only one of their last 11 games in all competitions.

Moreover, the Merseyside club sits just one point above the relegation zone, and the Friedken Group, who became the new owners in December 2024, ultimately decided to dismiss Dyche.

The conversation has since shifted to who will take charge of the club next, with several names already being mooted, including Mourinho.

However, according to The Telegraph, the Everton owners have ruled out Mourinho as their next head coach, having previously sacked him during his tenure at AS Roma.

The report also claims that former West Ham United manager David Moyes is a strong candidate for the job.

Former Everton player Leighton Baines has been appointed as caretaker boss while the search for a new permanent coach continues. After claiming a 2-0 win against Peterborough in the FA Cup, Baines was asked if he was planning to apply for the role.

"No, I'm happy to help in whatever way I can, and I am really, really proud that I got to help out today and support the football club, which is what we love to do," said Baines, according to Liverpool Echo.

"I'm made up that we got to do that, and what happens next, I do not know. Everything moved that quickly today, so I do not know."
