Burnley boss admits Foster could be set for new role

Burnley boss Scott Parker has admitted that South African star Lyle Foster could be set for a new role.

Foster was back among the goals this past weekend, as he scored Burnley's opening goal during their 3-1 victory over Reading FC in the FA Cup.

The 24-year-old's strike was his first goal since August 2024.

During the recent match against Reading, where he ended his goal drought, Foster played on the left wing rather than his preferred number nine position, which was occupied by veteran Jay Rodriguez.

With the shuffling of Foster's position to the wide flank seemingly having paid off for Parker, the manager was asked if the Bafana Bafana star could be an option on the left going forward.

"Yeah, I think it is," said Parker, according to the newspaper Burnley Express.

"I think I've seen him there a little bit now and I thought he was superb today [against Reading].

"Physically he was very good and he deserved his goal, but that's the quality Lyle brings. But it's definitely an option for us."

Despite his apparent struggles for form, Foster has had some serious injury issues this season, as Transfermarkt indicates that the former Orlando Pirates star has missed 13 games this term due to a knee injury.

Elsewhere, it is reported that Burnley are looking to sign a new striker in the current transfer window.

According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, Burnley have already submitted an official bid to sign Plymouth Argyle forward Morgan Whittaker.
