"The main items they loved to steal were soccer boots and shorts," he explains.
"Especially the soccer kits used in cup competitions. Your teammate would steal your jersey or shorts and give them to friends or relatives somewhere in KZN.
"After every cup competition, you are allowed to take home the entire three-piece kit - shirt, shorts, and socks, and sometimes even soccer boots.
"I remember one teammate of mine at Kaizer Chiefs... he was from Alexandra. That guy used to steal our stuff and sell it to his friends. Back then, Chiefs merchandise was in high demand.
"He would say directly, 'Hey baba, izinto ze Chiefs ziyahamba! It's in demand. Why are you keeping these things? Don't you need money?'
"In the dressing room, he would joke, 'Hayi asiholi lutho la, mina ngiyozithengisa lezinto (We're not getting paid much here, I'm going to sell these),' ha, ha, ha.

"That guy wasn't just working as a player for Chiefs, he also made extra cash on the side by stealing anything he could sell.
A lot goes on behind the scenes."
