Ex-Bafana coach: Broos shouldn't allow interference

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is receiving praise for his ability to manage the national team without outside interference.

The Belgian coach has been commended by many for transforming South Africa into one of the most formidable teams in African football.

However, some individuals remain dissatisfied with his player selection, but former Bafana coach Jomo Sono expresses his full support for the Belgian.

"Bafana Bafana has a good coach, and I like him because he is not influenced by anyone. He follows his beliefs, and it's paying off," Sono tells KickOff.

"The fans won't give you results; results come from performing well on the pitch.

"I remember receiving a lot of criticism when I led Bafana Bafana to the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations, but I ended up in the final."

South Africa finished as runners-up after losing to Egypt in the 1998 tournament, which was hosted by Burkina Faso.

Sono advised Broos, "Do not listen to anyone; you are doing a great job as it is. As head coach, you are the only one who should be making decisions. Anyone who has an issue with that should become a coach and choose their own players.

"Broos is delivering results, so how can anyone find fault with someone who is winning games for us? He is not selecting certain players because he has determined he does not need them in his squad—that's simply how it is.

"I achieved good results in 1998 because I didn't select certain players. Let the man work peacefully and take us to the World Cup.

"There is no truth to the claim that he harbors animosity toward other clubs; he shouldn't listen to the fans. As a coach, you are the one whose head will be on the chopping block when the team loses.

"We are going to the World Cup, definitely; we are winning our games. The country wants results, not superstars. They don't care about names. Let's just support the winning national team."
