Polokwane City snap 7-game winless streak

Polokwane City ended their seven-game winless run in the Betway Premiership  with a 3-1 victory over Richards Bay FC on Sunday afternoon.

Keegan Allan, Tlakusani Mthethwa and Thulani Gumede were recalled by the Natal Rich Boyz, while Rise and Shine brought in Nyakala Raphadu, Koketso Baloyi and Lebohang Nkaki following the loss to Chippa United.

Richards Bay looked for a strong start on five minutes with a header from Yanela Mbuthuma following a corner-kick, but he went wide of the mark.

The home team proved decisive from relatively the same scenario in the midway quarter and had Nkaki nod a floating cross from Oswin Appollis in the near post.

Mbuthuma went close to levelling matters around the half-hour mark following a snap shot from a tight angle after the host conceded possession, but fluffed his lines.

Coach Ronnie Gabriel made a substitution five minutes ahead of the break, bringing on Thato Mohlamme in place of Fezile Gcaba.

Justice Figareido clawed level seven minutes after halftime with a thumping header from the centre of the box following a cross by Nkosikhona Ndaba.

Richards Bay chased a second goal minutes lateer when a cross-cum shot by Gumede from an acute angle sailed across the face of the area.

However, the host regained the lead moments later as Simon Ramabu pounced on a delivery across the face of the six-yard area and headed into the bottom-corner.

City made the game safe in the final quarter after Nkaki added his second and Polokwane's third goal with a composed finish from the  penalty spot following a foul on Appollis by Moses Mthembu.

The Natal Rich Boys targeted a response ahead of full-time, but the host absorbed all of the pressure and secured the victory.
