'This boy Nkota is smart'

Orlando Pirates left-footer Mohau Nkota, who scored the winning goal in a 1-0 CAF Champions League success against  MC Alger, has received praise from a former Banyana Banyana captain.

Jose Riveiro's troops secured a vital victory and an away goal advantage after edging out Algerian giants MC Alger 1-0 at the July 5 Stadium in Algiers, Algeria on Tuesday.

The winner came in the second half from substitute Nkota, who also scored a brace against CR Belouizdad at the same stadium in a  2-1 win during the group stages.

This time around, his strike was the only shot on target for the men in Black and Red in a match they where they had just 31% of the ball possession.

Reviewing the goal on SABC Sport, Simphiwe Dludlu detailed the brilliance of the 20-year-old, who was played through by Relebohile Mofokeng and finished calmly past the goalkeeper.

"You need to have the experience to see where the defender will commit, where I go as the attacker and how I protect the ball," Dludlu explained.

"When the defender commits, I should not panic, I should protect the ball and know that once he falls, he is a man down. We always say that as a defender, stay on your feet as much as possible so that you add numbers.

"If you are on the ground, the game moves on and that's what Nkota does. He had the timing of his run, and his composure was sublime," she added.

Meanwhile, Jabu Mahlangu offered his own analysis, saying, "That's what we were saying (Evidence) Makgopa needs to do; just delay, wait for the defender to fall and just put your body in front of the defender. If he doesn't touch you, the defender, with the tackle, then you are one-on-one with the keeper.

"So this boy Nkota is smart."

The result means MC Alger have it all to play for when they visit Orlando Stadium next week Wednesday for the second leg.

For The Buccaneers, a likely semi-finals meeting with Pyramids FC of Egypt, who trounced AS FAR 4-1 on Tuesday evening, looms large.
