Kevin-Prince Boateng is a Ghana player

The Ghana Football Association got the confirmation on Wednesday morning to leave the midfielder in the all clear about his World Cup participation.

The 23-year old midfielder has been in fine form for Portsmouth this season and there are many in Ghana who feel his addition to the side will be a major boost to the Black Stars for the 2010 World Cup campaign.

Born to a German mother and a Ghanaian father, the former Hertha Berlin and Tottenham Hotspurs man played for the German Under-21 team six times before deciding his international future lay with Ghana.

He has already been named in the preliminary Black Stars squad and the formalisation of his switch now means he is a certainty on board the Ghana flight to Johannesburg.

His first meeting with the rest of the Ghana squad will come on May 24th when the squad gather in Paris, France for a training camp. He could also potentially play his first match for Ghana on May 27 against a yet to be named opponent.

He has already been assured of a warm welcome to the Ghana side with defender John Paintsil saying, "I have watched him play several times and he is a very good player. He has a very good fighting spirit and is a quality player so it will be good to have him."

Boateng himself is thrilled by the prospect of representing Ghana.

“Ghana is definitely my future, 100%,” Boateng said. “I want to play for the Black Stars. If I keep going and play well for Portsmouth and we stay up, I think there's a big chance for me to go to the World Cup."
