12 famous African father-son footballers

With the sons of Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o both taking the next step in their respective careers, here is a look at some famous African footballers whos sons have taken to the game.

Over the space of the last two weeks, both Drogba and Eto'o have seen their sons advance in their careers, with Isaac Drogba joining Serie D side Folgore Caratese and Etienne Eto'o being named in Cameroon's squad for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The young duo are the latest in a string of African footballers who hail from sporting families, which notably includes Ghana stars Andre and Jordan Ayew, who are the sons of legendary forward Abedi Pele.

Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang followed in his father Pierre Aubameyang's footsteps in representing the African nation, while Divock Origi, the son of former Kenya star Mike Origi, and Romelu and Jordan Lukaku, the sons of former Zaire international Roger Lukaku, elected to represent Belgium.

Elsewhere, former Ballon d'Or winner and current Libera president George Weah's son Timothy is currently a star at LOSC Lille and within the United States national team camp, while Leroy Sane, the son of former Senegal international Souleyman Sane, plays for Bayern Munich and Germany.

In North Africa, legendary Egypt striker Mohamed Aboutrika recently celebrated his son Ahmed Aboutrika making his professional debut while the son of former Morocco star Mustapha Hadji, Samir, is a household name in Luxembourg.

A number of South African father-son combinations have graced the pitch in years gone by, with Les Grobler and current Bafana Bafana striker Bradley Grobler singled out on this occasion.
