Are Man Utd up for sale? Glazers respond

Manchester United co-owners, the Glazer family, have responded to questions about whether they are willing to sell their majority shares in the club.

It was just last year that the Glazers sold almost a third of their shares in United to the INEOS Group, which is led by British tycoon Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The businessman won a bidding war against Qatari magnate Sheikh Jassim and acquired a 27.7% stake in the club for a fee of £1.25 billion (R29 billion), according to Sky Sports.

Since then, there has been undeniable unrest at Old Trafford, both on and off the pitch, as the club is understood to have laid off around 200 employees and recorded significant losses since the partial INEOS takeover.

The financial report released by the club this week highlighted further revenue losses, with the sacking of former manager Erik ten Hag, his coaching staff, and ex-sporting director Dan Ashworth costing the club a staggering £14.5 million (R338 million).

During an on-the-street interview with Sky Sports, American businessman Avram Glazer was asked if he or his family had any plans to sell the Red Devils, to which he bluntly said: "No."

Notably, however, Sheikh Jassim is said to have not given up hope of owning United one day.

According to the Daily Mail, an unnamed Qatari advisor told the publication: "He is still a United fan. He is not going to rush off and try another Premier League club.

"If the opportunity to buy the whole of Manchester United arose again at some point in the future, it is hard to see there not being a big level of interest. The plans are still there."
