Kenya national team head coach Benni McCarthy has revealed his key focus for the team ahead of the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Pierre Aubameyang's Gabon.
The former Manchester United first-team striker trainer was appointed as the Harambee Stars head coach last week on Monday, tasked with the responsibility of qualifying Kenya, currently fourth in Group F with five points after four matches, for the 2026 World Cup.
McCarthy's first assignment will be an away match against Gambia on March 20th, followed by Kenya hosting Gambia three days later at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

Aubameyang, who plays for Saudi Pro League team Al-Qadsiah, has been named in the Scorpions' squad ahead of the clash with Kenya. His extensive experience on the international stage is anticipated to enhance the team.
After a few days of team preparation following his arrival, McCarthy has now outlined what is most important for the Harambee Stars at the moment.
''Our first priority is the Gambia match on the 20th for the World Cup qualification,'' McCarthy said per People Daily.
''That is our first priority. Hopefully, we can get a team ready to go out there and fight and bring pride to the Kenyan nation. Then, we build on from there to Gabon, and hopefully, we're on a good path to fulfilling the ultimate dream.

''It's just a matter of time before we get it right and things go perfectly. Then, I think everybody will be proud of the team they support and that represents them as Kenyans,'' he added.
''That's what I, my technical team, and the coaches here want to bring to this country. We want to bring a football team that people can be proud of.''
