Real Madrid bounce back to move level with Barca

Real Madrid returned to winning ways in LALIGA with 2-0 victory over Girona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday evening.

The home side rang the changes after the midweek UEFA Champions League action as David Alaba,, Brahim Diaz and Luka Modric all returned to the starting line-up.

Mbappe scored a hat-trick against Manchester City this week and was looking to cotinue that form in early stages, but his powerful strike was saved by Girona goalkeeper  Paulo Gazzaniga insde the first ten minutes.

The game a bit more open as the half went on as Real shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois was called upon to keep out Donny van de Beek's effort, while Vinicius could not keep his header on target at the other end after 30 minutes.

Madrid got the opening goal in fine style minutes before the halftime as Modric brought a high ball under control and unleashed a volley from 25 yards that sailed into the back of the net.

Vinicius was unlucky not to have got his name on the score-sheet as he managed to get some space just outside the box before seeing his powerful strike rattle the crossbar with Gazzaniga well beaten.

Girona responded with a triple change after 66 minutes, as Oriel Roemu, Bryan Gil and Yaser Asprilla replaced  Jhon Solis, Ivan Martin and Arnaut Danjuma.

The home side ended any hopes of a Girona fight back in the 83rd minute when Mbappe turned provider to play in Vinicius, who sent a low strike into the far corner to seal maximum points.
