Liverpool sink Man City to open 11-point lead

Liverpool moved 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League after recording a 2-0 win over the holders Manchester City on Sunday evening.

Luis Diaz was the Reds' sole change from the draw with Aston Villa as he replaced Diogo Jota, while the host missed Erling Haaland but welcomed back Kevin De Bruyne.

The champions-elect hit the front in the 14th minute as star player Mohamed Salah took a clever lay-off from Dominik Szoboszlai in his stride and finished comfortably.

Fellow Egyptian Omar Marmoush looked to have levelled it up with first-time finish from Phil Foden's delivery a few minutes later, but unfortunately it was ruled out for offside.

Liverpool added to the advantage in the final quarter of the half when Salah came inside of Abdukodir Khusanov and Josko Gvardiol to set-up Dominik Szoboszlai for a smart finish.

No substitutions were made by either bench ahead of the second period, with the reigning champions in need of a comeback and title-chasers cruising.

The table-toppers made it three when Szoboszlai raced in-behind and cutback for Curtis Jones to tap in, but the former had gone early and saw the strike ruled out for offside.

City battled to penetrate the visitors nor get any chances of note, as Marmoush, Savio, Foden and Jeremy Doku failed to trouble Alisson Becker and co.

Diaz almost got in on the act after coming in on the right and cutting inside of Rico Lewis to aim for the top-corner, but City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes was equal to the task.

Cityzens boss Pep Guardiola decided to refresh his attack in the final 20 minutes and introduced youngster James McAtee in the place of De Bruyne.

Arne Slot's charges continued having all the dominance though and marched to a comfortable victory to remain on course for the Premier League title.

Confirmed line-ups:

Manchester City: Manchester City: Ederson, Lewis, Khusanov, Ake, Gvardiol, Nico, De Bruyne, Savinho, Foden, Doku, Marmoush

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Jones, Salah, Diaz
