UPDATE: Greenwood's nationality switch hits hurdle

With Mason Greenwood in the process of switching allegiance from England to Jamaica, a new update on the situation has been revealed ahead of the impending international break.

The first international break of 2025 will see various nations resume their qualifying campaigns for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This period also gives players time to consider their international futures, and one such player who has made a decision about his national team career is Greenwood.

The England Football Association chief executive, Mark Bullingham, recently confirmed that Greenwood has asked to switch allegiance from England to Jamaica.

Greenwood's request makes him ineligible for any further selection by the Three Lions.

"My understanding is that he has asked to switch. That's happened formally so he wouldn't be able to be (selected) because you can only switch once," said Bullingham, according to SportsMax TV.

This decision means Greenwood is no longer eligible for selection by England and, pending FIFA's approval, could soon become available for the Caribbean nation.

According to Gulf News, Greenwood cannot be called up by Jamaica just yet due to some of the paperwork being incomplete.

However, the Reggae Boyz' new head coach, Steve McClaren, is confident Greenwood will commit his future to Jamaica.

The former Manchester United assistant coach said: "We are in contact all the time, with him (Greenwood) and his family. I am very confident he only wants to play for Jamaica. It is up to him when he moves forward with that. The ball is in his court."
