Zlatan Ibrahimovic hints at international return after cryptic post

Ibrahimovic scored a record 62 goals in 116 appearances for Sweden before retiring from the international stage in 2016, following his nation's disappointing exit from the UEFA European Championship.

The 39-year-old was reportedly close to making a U-turn on numerous occasions since, and was controversially omitted from Sweden's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but could now complete a remarkable return to the national team after dropping a hint on social media.

"Long time no see," the in-form AC Milan striker posted on his official Twitter account, alongside an image of himself wearing Sweden's famous No. 10 jersey.

Ibrahimovic made his international debut as a 19-year-old in 2001, and represented the Blue Yellow at two FIFA World Cups and four European Championships over the course of the next 15 years.

He became Sweden's all-time leading goalscorer in 2014 when he broke Sven Rydell's 82-year-old record of 49 goals for the national team, and added a further 13 strikes to his tally before announcing his international retirement in 2016.

Should Ibrahimovic return to the national team fold, he could play himself into contention for a spot in the squad for the 2020 European Championship, which has been rescheduled to commence in June next year.
