Al Ahly captain Mohamed El Shenawy explains how Pitso Mosimane galvanised the squad

Mosimane has led the Red Devils to eight victories and one draw in his first nine games since replacing Rene Weiler as head coach in late September.

This includes the emphatic 5-1 drubbing of Wydad AC in the CAF Champions League final, beating Zamalek SC 2-1 in the Derby of the Century for their record ninth title and leading them to the Egypt Cup final.

And El Shenawy admits his man-management has played a crucial role for his seamless transition since leaving Mamelodi Sundowns after a 2019/20 domestic treble in South Africa.

"We knew him already and have been following him since he was coach of Sundowns."

Egypt's number one goalkeeper added that his arrival was imperative for their end-of-season success, with Weiler having lost the dressing room after boardroom issues crept into the squad during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We felt a change in Weiler's treatment and he stopped doing some things, while others felt that he wanted to leave," the 31-year-old admitted.

"So management decided to let him go and bring Mosimane to maintain the stability of the team [for the final stages of the season]."

The Al Ahly academy graduate has won nine major titles including six league winner's medals with the Club of the Century.
