EURO 2020 match report Turkey v Italy 11 June 2021

The Turks started danger man Burak Yilmaz, whilst Italy threw in a front-three of Lorenzo Insigne, Ciro Immobile and Domenico Berardi.

Italy were able to though fashion the first opportunity near the half-way stage of the first half as Giorgio Chiellini forced a stunning palm from goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir with a sharp header.

The Turks were given little room to penetrate afterwards as a quick effort by Immobile forced Cakir to a save before Berardi failed to wrap his foot around a ball over the top of the defence.

Both sides threw on substitutions ahead of the second half, with Turkey introducing Cengiz Under for Yusuf Yazici while the Italians introduce Giovanni Di Lorenzo for Alessandro Florenzi.

The Azzurri were ahead seven minutes in after a cross from the right by Berardi was bundled in by Merih Demiral after he looked to make a clearance.

Berardi looked to go on and nab a goal himself midway in the second half through a half-volley from a tight angle in the area, but he went wide.

The Italians did go on to add to their advantage when Immobile charged down a loose ball from a spill by Cakir on 66 minutes to slot home from around six yards.

Italy weren't content and added a third goal with 12 minutes left courtesy of a low first-time finish in the area from Insigne after Turkey fluffed their defensive lines.

The win elevated the Azzurri to the top of Group A, whereas the loss dropped their counterparts to rock-bottom of the group standings.
