Broos reveals secret behind Benin win

Head coach Hugo Broos has revealed the game plan behind Bafana Bafana's impressive 2-0 win over Benin in their latest 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Bafana held firm to their spot at the top of Group C after six matches with a convincing victory over Benin on match-day six of the qualifiers at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan.

Second-half goals from Lyle Foster and Jayden Adams were enough to earn a valuable three points for South Africa.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Broos revealed his technical team had done their homework on the opposition.

"I think, first of all, we did a good analysis of the opponent. Secondly, I think the players did what we asked from them. We knew where we could be dangerous against this team, Benin," reflected Broos.

"It is a good team, but we did good today keeping the ball and waiting for the right moments.

"So, in the first half, Benin could really do something, but in the second half, with the weather very hot, I think they were tired and for us it started to be more easier.

"We could score once, we could score the second time, and I said to the bench, to my assistant, that if we score once, we will win the game, and I think it was like that," he went on.

Broos added that Benin did not posed much danger except for the little chance they had in the first half.

"We dominated the game, and I think we deserved to win."

Bafana will again be in World Cup qualifiers action in September when they take on neighbours Lesotho and old foes Nigeria.
