De Nobrega: Hypocrites should give Broos credit

Former Bloemfontein Celtic coach Tony De Nobrega has warned that those who doubted Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos, should give him a credit now that he is doing wonders with the team.

Despite taking a team dominated by locally based players to the AFCON, Broos has managed to beat the likes of Morocco and claim a spot in the quarter-finals.

Prior to the tournament, the Belgian was heavily criticised for leaving out some of the country's biggest players.

"There's a lot of people who are hypocrites because a couple of weeks ago they were complaining about Hugo Broos when he lost the first game," De Nobrega tells KickOff.

"And now all of a sudden they are saying he is the best. So I hope they've learned to give people a chance.

"They mustn't judge people quickly, it was a very good performance. But the quarter-final stage is not good enough, once you reach the quarter-final, you will want to reach the semis.

"But it's a good opportunity for them in a tournament whereby anyone can beat anyone. They've got a bit of luck when Morocco missed the penalty. You need some luck in games.

"They didn't get many chances to score, they had only one or two and they scored them. If you defend well you always got a chance, and that's exactly what they did," the coach added.

"Personally, I've been impressed with Bafana's performance even before the AFCON. You could see how the coach was structuring the team, he knows how he wants the team to play, and Hugo Broos he deserves most of the credit.

"His team has performed well against good teams. He is a calm coach and that filters through to the whole team. It's not easy to coach Bafana with all the shenanigans around the coach, but he's done a very good job.

"You only got to win three more games and then you are crowned champions. We've got a 50/50 chance against Cape Verde. Beating the number one team in Africa must have given them a lot of confidence. I don't think they will be afraid of anyone."
