'He is on a different level' - Bafana maestro praised

Midfielder Jayden Adams, who scored his second goal in two consecutive matches for the senior national team, has been hailed as 'one of the best' by a former Bafana Bafana winger.

Bafana maintained their place at the summit of Group C after six matches with a convincing 2-0 win over Benin on match-day six of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Adams netted with a header from a free-kick to make sure of the result after Lyle Foster had opened the scoring, both goals coming in the second half.

It was the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder's second goal in as many matches in national colours, proving to be a valuable cog to the set-up since his return from a Hugo Broos banishment.

He had come on as a second-half substitute as a replacement for Percy Tau.

Even at club level, the 23-year-old has seemingly hit the ground running and is yet to miss a match for the defending champions since a big-money move from Stellenbosch FC in January.

For former Bafana winger Delron Buckley, Adams is one of a kind.

"It is seldom that you have a short player that can win duels in the air and it shows the quality of him," the retired footballer, now an analyst, said on SABC Sport after the match.

"I watched him in the last game they played; he is so composed on the ball. He has vision, he has quality. He knows when to dribble at the right moment.

"He knows when to pass on the right moment. He comes in, the first touch that he gets, he keeps it simple. You don't come in and do fancy things. He keeps it simple. It shows that for a 23-year-old, he is on a different level.

"For me at the moment, he is one of the best midfielders we have in the moment at Bafana Bafana," added the man who also played in the Bundesliga at his prime.

The Bafana squad is expected to land in Mzansi on Thursday, with the eight Sundowns players having the challenge of a Friday fixture in the Nedbank Cup against Sekhukhune United.
