Bafana star: I couldn’t feel my body

Midfielder Thabang Monare has shed some light into some of the celebrations after Bafana Bafana defeated number-one ranked Morocco to seal a spot in the last eight of the AFCON.

Bafana continued their run in the AFCON with a dramatic 2-0 win over The Atlas Lions thanks to second-half goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena.

Speaking via SAFA media, Monare admitted that the feeling of sealing a spot in the quarter-finals, particularly with a win over Africa's top-ranked side, was surreal.

"Well you know when everything starts to sink in, when reality starts to hit and everything comes at all once and you get to understand the reality of where you are and what is going on," the midfielder said via the SAFA media department.

"When you get to look at the team that you have just defeated you know, and you just don't really have a sense of making it make sense, where you are. It just felt like a dream at that moment. It just felt like I lost feel, I couldn't feel my body.

"It was an out of body experience and I just sit down and let it sink in until that moment where I could actually feel that this is happening, this is the real world."

Bafana now turn their attention to the last eight of the continental competition where they meet Cape Verde on Saturday.

"It's a very tough team, I think the more we progress the harder it's going to get," Monare added.

"We've watched their games and they are a team that is willing to work very hard. So if you are playing against that kind of a team you need to be on your A-game and we not only have to match that but we have to beat that."

Bafana's match Cape Verde is scheduled to kick-off at 22:00.
