Banyana Banyana conceded late against Chile in a 2-2 draw

Banyana were leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Refiloe Jane and US-based Thembi Kgatlana, but they conceded in the 81st minute as their tour of Chile came to an end.

Desiree Ellis’s ladies lost the first international friendly against the South Americans 2-1 on Saturday and were hoping to get themselves a victory of their own when they met on Tuesday (03h00 Wednesday, South African time).

The COSAFA Women’s Championship champions made a solid start to the game, with a goal in the fifth minute from the in-form Jane, who was also on the score sheet in the defeat on Saturday. Jane also scored two goals in the final of the COSAFA Women’s Championship last month.

Despite Chile's dominance, Banyana held onto their lead till the break. It was just eight minutes into the second half, however, when the hosts levelled matters.

Kgatlana restored Banyana’s advantage just after the hour mark, giving the visitors hope of getting a victory. That, however, would not be the case as the Chileans equalised in the final 10 minutes of regulation time.
