Banyana Banyana trio selected for AWCON group stage XI

Tournament top scorer Thembi Kgatlana, captain Janine van Wyk and left-back Nothando Vilakazi feature in the team, which is dominated by players from West African countries.

Kgatlana has arguably been the best player at the tournament which is being played in Ghana, scoring in every game during the group stages, while also creating two. She is on four goals and is a favourite to walk away with the top scorer award.

Van Wyk and Vilakazi have been key at the back for Banyana and no doubt deserve their spot in the team.

The likes of Jermaine Seoposenwe and Linda Motlhalo are unlucky to miss out because they've also done well for the national side during the group stages.

Banyana will take on Mali in the second semi-final in Accra at 20h30 tonight. A victory would book them a place at the 2019 FIFA World Cup in France.

Defending champions Nigeria take on Cameroon in the other semi-final.
