A host of regulars were rested, as Sundowns gave Ricardo Goss, Khuliso Mudau, Aubrey Modiba, Hlompho Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Promise Mkhuma and Mauricio Affonso a run.
Sundowns looked to make the early breakthrough from a layoff by Affonso to Gaston Sirino following good work from Mudau, but the Uruguayan narrowly missed target.
The host began to show face a little before the 20th minute as Mohamed Abdel Rahman Yousif worked goalkeeper Goss to a low save with a low shot from an acute angle in the area.
However, Masandawana regained momentum towards the half-hour mark and saw a header from Rushine De Reuck scooped off the goal-line.
Hilal let the South Africans off the hook when an attempt from Abuaagla Abdalla inside the area crashed off the woodwork with the defence in sixes and sevens, while another promising attempt from the Blue Lions showed after Yousif fired narrowly across the far side.
The hosts started the second half continuously looking to bag the opener and were close after De Reuck accompanied by Goss made a goal-line clearance from a snap shot by Yousif.
The Brazilians refreshed their stall 12 minutes following the restart, with Sirino withdrawn from the playing contingent in favour of Haashim Domingo.
Following a slow spell, Sundowns maintained their tireless search for the breakthrough with a volley from Domingo saved before Kekana clipped the crossbar with a powerful attempt.
A share of the spoils was how it finished in the city of Omburman, with the Brazilians dropping points for the first time.
