Reigning champions Al Ahly have progressed alongside North African rivals Wydad, Esperance de Tunis, Belouizdad and MC Alger, while Tanzanian giants Simba are the other team to have progressed in the competition.

A number of players have also shone during the competition thus far and the tournament's five leading goalscorers this season, all of whom have scored three goals, all play for teams who have moved on to the next round.

That includes Algerian striker Amir Sayoud, whose goal in Belouizdad's 2-0 win over Sundowns on Friday helped his side sneak into the knockout stages ahead of TP Mazembe on the head-to-head ruling.

The 30-year-old is joined at the top of the goalscoring charts by Ahly star Mohamed Sherif, Simba forward Luis Miquisonne (formerly of Masandawana), Wydad's Ayoub El Kaabi and Esperance goal-getter Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane.
