Pitso Mosimane feels CAF Champions League draw was fair, but is wary of his opponents

The 2016 continental champions learnt their fate on Wednesday as they were pitted against defending champions Wydad Casablanca, Guniea’s Horoya and AS Port of Togo.

Champions Casablanca dumped the Pretoria side out of the quarter-finals last year following a penalty shootout, with Mosimane acknowledging facing them once more will be an “interesting” prospect.

“It is a fair draw,” he is quoted as saying by CAF. “You can’t ask for less, you can’t ask for more. It is the top 16 and you take whatever comes. With regards to Wydad, both of us are not sure of each other. We beat them at home [1-0] and they also beat us [1-0], and they won on penalties and went on to win the title. Both teams want to know who is better. They are the current champions and we have also won it before, so it will be interesting to play them.”

Mosimane then went on to compliment fellow opponents Horoya, but admitted to not knowing much about Togolese rivals AS Port.

“Horoya plays good football with great passing technique,” he continued. “They are good team, tactical and have some good individual players. The team we don’t know much is AS Port, and we will have to conduct a research on them.”

The Brazilians open the group stages with a mammoth clash against Wydad at home, with that fixture set for the weekend of 4-6 May.
