Raja escorted by police at Loftus

Raja Casablanca coach Ricardo Sa Pinto and his players were lucky to escape with no major injuries after their bus was pelted with stones by their fans in Tshwane on Sunday.

Raja players and technical team had to be escorted out of the stadium under heavy security as their fans stormed the main entrance of Loftus Versfeld Stadium and threw missiles towards the bus they were traveling in for the CAF Champions League match against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Moroccans suffered a 1-0 defeat to Miguel Cardoso's men Sundowns to remain bottom of the Group B log standings. Raja are still yet to win a match in the group stage so far this season.

Sa Pinto pointed towards the absence of VAR as a contributing factor to their loss. His side scored two goals but both were ruled offside by Gabonese match official Pierre Ghislain Atcho and his assistant referee Boris Marlaise Ditsoga.

"It's a clear goal, in my opinion, You can check it after," Sa Pinto told the journalists after the match.

"But at this level, where we are playing the Champions League of Africa, we need to have VAR. You are playing too much for your team, you are playing too much for everybody, so it is important in this situation that it is clear when it's not a goal and when it's a goal," he added.

Sa Pinto's future at the club remains uncertain, with former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer, who won a league and cup double with the side last season, reported to be on his way to rejoin them.
