CAF Confederation Cup match report Kaizer Chiefs v Elgeco Plus 15 December 2018

As expected, Chiefs gave a run to a few fringe players and found it difficult to penetrate the opposing defence.

Khama Billiat failed to meet a perfectly placed through ball after finding himself goal-side inside 16 minutes.

A low free-kick from the edge of the area was presented to Billiat, but the Zimbabwean failed to make it count with a poor execution.

Philiani Zulu, who was one of the several changes, repaid the faith by coming up with the opening goal with a thunderbolt finish in the 32nd minute.

Leonardo Castro missed a big chance to put the Amakhosi further in front moments later, as his shot flew over the top as the Soweto giants held ontto a slim lead at the break.

Chiefs opted for a change at the start of the second half with Siphelele Ntshangase coming on for Godfrey Walusimbi.

Billiat looked to combine with Castro on the edge of the box but the Elgeco defence were well drilled to deny the South American forward.

That proved to be the case for most of the half as Chiefs were finding it tough to carve out chances in the final third.

Inside the latter stages, Castro dilly-dallied in front of goal after bursting through where he failed to put away a chance with the net gaping.

With four minutes to go, Castro finally made amends for his earlier miss with an easy side-foot conversion off of a pass from Billiat.

Substitute Dumisani Zuma won a penalty for the hosts in added time, which allowed Castro to step up to complete his brace to round off the contest.

Chiefs: Vries, Cardoso, Walusimbi, Booysen, Hadebe, Katsande, Andrianarimanana, Manyama, Zulu, Billiat, Castro.

Subs: Bvuma, Ekstein, Parker, Ntiya-Ntiya, Mahlasela, Ntshangase, Zuma.
