Algerian giants hand SuperSport second CCC loss

SuperSport United remain winless in the Confederation Cup group stages following 2-0 loss to USM Alger on Sunday afternoon.

Zimbabwean veteran Washington Arubi kept his spot in goal, as Abdurazak Hamza earned a rare start as United looked to pick up their first win of the campaign.

However, it was a disappointing start for the three-time South African champions as USM hit the front on five minutes courtesy of Saadi Radouani.

Matsatsantsa were eager to bounce back instantly from a cross to the area by Shandre Campbell, but unfortunately Ronald Pfumbidzai failed to capitalise.

Campbell looked to take matters in his own hands minutes gone and curled well wide from a decent position around the offensive area of the Algerian outfit.

SuperSport still enjoyed the strong spell of pressure past the half-hour mark and saw a teasing header from Bradley Grobler draw a save from goalkeeper Oussama Benbot.

Before the start of the second half, the Tshwane giants introduced Kegan Johannes in the place of veteran defender Thulani Hlatshwayo.

Although, the Algerian giants extended the tally ten minutes in the second half after Benzaza pounced to see Matsatsantsa further on the back-foot.

The Tshwane boys unleashed a trio of alterations during the midway point of the second period in Selaelo Rasebotja, Etiosa Ighodaro and Lyle Lakay.

However, the changes did little to affect the overall sequence of the match and left the Algerian outfit to grab the full haul of maximum points.
