RS Berkane have confirmed the appointment of Florent Ibenge as their new head coach just a week after his resignation at AS Vita Club.
Ibenge has long been tipped to make a move to South Africa after emerging as one of the most tactically astute coaches with Vita and the DR Congo national team over the past decade.
He held a dual role with club and country for six years before resigning from The Leopards after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. And last week he stepped away from Vita, fuelling speculation over his next move.
The shock decision was made in the aftermath of the club losing the Linafoot title to TP Mazembe due to an alleged administrative error that resulted in a nine-point deduction.
Vita went from league winners to third-place and missing out on next season's CAF Champions League as well as Ibenge resigning with two league titles and two CAF inter-club finals to his name during his impressive spell.
Berkane moved swiftly to secure his services, with the reigning Confederation Cup champions confirming he's signed a two-year contract to replace Spaniard Juan Pedro Benali.
According to Foot DRC, the 59-year-old will pocket $55,000 (R780,000) per month during his stay at the Moroccan top-flight outfit.
His first game in charge will see The Volcano take on Ittihad Tanger is their final Botola Pro clash of the 2020/21 campaign.
