Gavin Lane: Orlando Pirates should always be in Africa

The Soweto giants were recently dumped out of the Confederation Cup after a 5-1 aggregate loss to Raja Casablanca at the quarter-final stage last week.

Following their Confed Cup elimination, the Buccaneers are facing the possibility and danger of not playing in Africa next season.

"Ja so it's a pity I mean when you trying to find yourselves trying been a top club in South Africa there's only one way to prove yourself and that's in Africa. Obviously, the season it hasn't been great, great season for is us but it hasn't been bad, bad you know what I mean?

"Of course we won the MTN 8 but things are gonna finish whatever they are in the league, we've been knocked out of CAF, so ja I think his priorities are gonna be from now on to try and make Pirates win the league again. And hopefully we will be in Africa.

"A team like Pirates should always be in Africa. They gotta be in the top two top three always you know what I mean? It's such a big team I mean, so I'm sure Dr. Irvin Khoza spoke to the coach before he arrived and said 'Listen, this is our priority we want to go we want to play in Africa.

"We want to play here all this type of things. It's not a best season we've had so far ja. Obviously, I don't know what contract the coach is got, but obviously he's got goals and obviously Pirates have got goals. He's got his plans and Dr. Khoza he's got his plans.

"I think many coaches are quite happy this season that there hasn't been spectators in the Stadiums because I think many coaches could have been fired long ago. Also, the Pirates coach is very lucky that supporters have not been around you know what I mean. So, it's a blessing in disguise."
