Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp wants to find a way to juggle domestic and continental football

After knocking out Zimamoto from Zanzibar in the preliminary round of the Confederation Cup, Amakhosi will take on ASSM Elgeco Plus of Madagascar in the first round.

The first leg will be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night (20h15), just three days after Middendorp’s first match in charge of the Soweto giants ended in a 1-0 victory over SuperSport United in the Absa Premiership.

Before the league match against Matsatsantsa at Mbombela Stadium, Middendorp was asked if he is looking forward to playing in the Confederation Cup and what his goals in the competition are. The German said: “I am focusing, in the moment, to the league, that means the next match against SuperSport. Secondly, the focus is going into the direction of the players and then third, of course, immediately after the game going into it [the Confederation Cup].

“You have to do it same time [with the domestic league] and I am aware about it. It’s a very hectic schedule and we have to find a solution to see how it works and how we do it. To make promises which direction this Confed Cup has a higher value than other things, I think that’s not as maximum as possible to go into the competition. That’s the target from my side.”
