This month marks a year since Castro’s arrival at Naturena from Mamelodi Sundowns, whom they will face in their opening Absa Premiership clash of the year this weekend.
The 29-year-old Colombian is now hoping for a much better second year as the dark cloud of an unprecedented trophy drought continues to hang over the club.
“When I arrived at Kaizer Chiefs, I knew the team hadn’t won trophies for a long period, so now in this case we all know we need to deliver something for the club,” said Castro.
“So, it’s pressure for us but in a good way, because as experienced players we need to manage this pressure and bring calm to the younger ones.
“This period we all know that we need to take these [coming] months to deliver a trophy for Kaizer Chiefs.”
With many people taking up New Year's resolutions, Castro is no different and has set his sights on bagging a third league title as well as a second continental crown.
“I think everyone has goals [for the new year], like in my case I want to win the league with Kaizer Chiefs [and] I want to also win the Confederation Cup – it’s important for me and for the club,” he added, before also revealing his target of goals by the end of the season.
“As strikers, our goal is to make and score goals, so personally I want to reach 15 goals in these [next] couple of months.”
Chiefs are set to face Zambian side Zesco United over two legs in their CAF Confederation Cup play-off round for a place in the group stages.
