Marumo Gallants finally return from CAF nightmare

Marumo Gallants returned home following a harrowing week-long debut in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Gallants suffered a 2-1 defeat to Futuro Kings in Equatorial Guinea after initially travelling with just 13 available players and without a goalkeeper for the first round, first-leg tie.

Such was the chaos that goalkeeper Washington Arubi arrived a mere two hours before kick-off on Saturday following a combination of visa-related administrative mishaps.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa flew out to Equatorial Guinea last Tuesday in a journey that took them to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, then to Malabo and Bata before arriving in Mongomo where they played on Saturday.

The next day they endured a road trip from Mongomo into neighbouring Cameroon which eventually took all day long after they experienced covid related protocols delays at the border.

This then meant they missed their flight in Yaounde and faced further travelling challenges in settling their overnight hotel bill.

Gallants ultimately left on Monday and landed in Johannesburg in the early hours of Tuesday morning before another road trip to their base in Polokwane where they arrived just before midday.

Sebastien Migne, the Gallants boss is now preparing the team for the return-leg against Futuro Kings at the Peter Mokaba Stadium this weekend.
