The side travelled to Equitorial Guinea this week in disarray with just 13 first-team players after the FIFA international break with several squad members not registered or facing passport and visa complications.
There was no goalkeeper present for their training sessions leading up to the game but Zimbabwe international Washington Arubi arrived minutes prior to kickoff in order to compete in their continental debut against Futuro Kings.
Gallants managed to secure an away goal in the 2-1 defeat amidst the upheaval leading towards the clash which Migne lauded as he felt it provides them with a platform to turn the tie around in South Africa.
"Unfortunately we lost today, I'm very disappointed, we did a good job but we need to [learn to be] composed in Africa," he said after the game.
"We conceded a penalty but we reacted well after and unfortunately after we conceded a second goal with a set-piece also with a small mistake from the goalkeeper [Arubi].
"We were happy to play with him because he just arrived some minutes before the game, so we are still alive and there's a second leg so we expect to work well to recover our fitness and be ready to compete well for next weekend."
The second leg of the first preliminary round tie will take place next Friday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium (15h00).
