Following his side’s 3-1 CAF Confederation Cup loss to Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend, the Ghanaian club reported their head coach missing having gone AWOL, and leaving a resignation letter in his hotel room.
Yet latest reports in Ghana now reveal the Swede has returned to his homeland after sneaking off without notifying his former employers.
“Resigned Medeama coach Tom Strand has arrived in his native Sweden after going AWOL from the team’s camp in South Africa,” GHANASoccernet.com revealed in a report.
“He sneaked out of his hotel and had an alternative air ticket to his hometown leaving his resignation letter in his room.”
The club had reported the matter to the South African Police with Ghana's High Commission notified as well, with the coach’s sudden departure catching the Ghanaians unaware.
Strand, 35, joined Medeama in December 2014, leading them to an 11th-placed finish last season.
The club currently sit 11th in the Ghanaian Premier League standings this season, having won just four of their opening 10 matches.
