Schalkwyk: 'Pirates not working as one'

Former midfielder Gert Schalkwyk believes the current Orlando Pirates squad and technical team are disjointed and acting as a team of individuals after their latest defeat.

The Buccaneers were beaten 3-2 by Al Ittihad in a Group B CAF Confederation Cup encounter in Libya on Sunday.

Defender Bandile Shandu grabbed both goals for Pirates.

"I think they [Al Ittihad] were fresher," Schalkwyk tells KickOff.

"Remember they last played like a month ago, so they had two, three to four weeks to prepare.

"So I think their preparation went very well and Pirates were playing the whole time, so they could check the analysis and everything."

Schalkwyk then also went on to issue words of advice for the Pirates technical team.

"It's upsetting the loss because even the way they are playing is not promising.

"I think Fadlu Davids and the head coach must just get their heads together.

"At the moment it seems like they are working as individuals.

"That's the problem, it doesn't feel like they are working as one."
