My Locker Room Secrets: Sibusiso Masina

In the latest edition of My Locker Room Secrets, KickOff catches up with former Cape Town City player Sibusiso Masina.

Masina also played for the likes of Mpumalanga Black Aces before they were bought by the Citizens chairman John Comitis.

 Who was always late?

"That must be Ayanda Patosi. We were like a new team when Cape Town City was formed, so there was a lot of funny stuff happening.

"And even now nobody knows why he was always late, but the rest of us were always on time."

Any interesting rituals before they played?

"Shu-Aib Walters before every game will go to the toilet, put down some cloth, and start praying in Muslim. He and Ebrahim Seedat. The rest of us would just sing."

Who was the jokester?

"Judas Moseamedi never took anything seriously, he was too playful. He would make fun of Thabo Nodada's dress sense [laughs].

"Judas, Thabo, and the grootman Vincent Kobola, they kept everybody in stitches."

Was it a muti-change room?

"At City prayer is a big thing, we don't even camp for home matches, we just meet on match day during team talk and pre-match meal."

Who was the singer?

"Judas and Thabo Nodada loved singing, we mostly sang church songs, ZCC songs mostly."

Who was the best dressed and who was the worst dressed?

"Before Teko Modise arrived everyone was wearing simple clothes. But when Teko joined us, we finally had a best-dressed player in our team [laughs].

"I wouldn't say Nodada was the worst dressed, but he liked dressing weirdly, he would come to training wearing these big trousers."

Who never showered?

"Ayanda Patosi never took a shower with the rest of us, he preferred doing it in his own private space, mostly at home. Hey, Patosi hates taking a shower [laughs]."

Rate the coach's team talk

"Eric Tinkler is always a great motivator. He wanted every player to enjoy himself once on the pitch."
