Rampant Chiefs book Carling Knockout last 8 spot

Kaizer Chiefs thrashed SuperSport United 4-0 to advance to the Carling Knockout quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

The Amakhosi restored Fabrice Ntwari, Rushwin Dortley, Yusuf Maart and Gaston Sirino from the CUFA Cup success last weekend, with United giving new signing Tashreeq Morris a debut just a day after announcing him.

Matsatsantsa made the earlier pressure after a quiet start and brought Ntwari to a spell of action, but the Amakhosi coped and sustained matters.

Chiefs did come good though minutes ahead of the half-hour mark and saw a telling attempt from Wandile Duba hit the woodwork with Ricardo Goss well-beaten.

The Tshwane giants went close with the exact threat a little later where the new boy Morriss looked for a dream debut but unfortunately fired off the crossbar.

Chiefs seized control in the 33rd minute as Uruguayan Sirino made space just around the area and slammed beyond a rasping Goss to make it 1-0.

With the Soweto giants enjoying the advantage, the host keenly attempted a response following the break but battled to get any joy in the decisive areas of the pitch.

Some form of pressure by Matsatsantsa had the Amakhosi in some bother but the Soweto giants remained resilient and doubled the lead through a telling header from captain Maart.

The Soweto heavyweights enjoyed all of the control, with the men of Gavin Hunt providing little threat and struggling to get any openings.

Chiefs confirmed victory in the final stages with Ranga Chivaviro continuing his fine start to the season and guided home from a decent position.

Matsatsantsa were down to ten players in the final minutes after Gape Moralo saw red following a second bookable offence he had committed.

The Amakhosi weren't done and grabbed a fourth in the dying minutes through substitute Ashley Du Preez, as the clash concluded.
