Chiefs retain top spot with slender victory

TS Galaxy 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs continued to lead the way at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge through a hard-fought 1-0 win over TS Galaxy on Sunday.

Both teams came into the match sitting in the top-half of the standings and in decent form too.

The start was not electrifying and a goalless draw looked a certainty until Manqoba Ozoemena took aim and gifted the Amakhosi the full haul of points.

Chiefs reclaimed top spot from Stellenbosch, who secured a win over Richards Bay on Saturday.

Polokwane City 0-1 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates halted their three-match winless run following a 1-0 victory over Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Buccaneers got the win via a penalty on the stroke of halftime by Mmatlou Sepale.

Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0 Chippa United

Mamelodi Sundowns showed Chippa United no mercy and walked away 4-0 victors in Atteridgeville.

Thuto Sibaya got the ball rolling right on the half-hour mark before Rulwana and Kutlwano Letlhaku added to the equation in the middle of the second half.

The Chilli Boys' misery was compounded right at the death when Neo Mokoena made it four to give Masandawana a third successive victory.

AmaZulu 1-1 Cape Town City

AmaZulu battled back to claim a 1-1 draw against Cape Town City in a tightly-contested showdown on Sunday morning.

The Citizens wasted no time and made their intentions clear when Jody Ah Shene dispatched a pin-point cross from Heaven Sereetsi.

Given the lead at the break, Usuthu regained momentum afterwards and found the equaliser through a well-taken finish from Moosa Mnguni and saw the points shared.

Richards Bay FC 2-3 Stellenbosch FC

Defending champions Stellenbosch FC staged a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Richards Bay FC on Saturday.

The exciting Ntlonelo Bomelo made the breakthrough on the half-hour mark with a smart finish after poor defending by the Maroons.

Bomelo was in again eight minutes later through another neatly taken effort following good build-up play by Thabisa Ndelu.

Stellenbosch began the fight back a minute into the second half as Kenan Johannesen finished off a cross before Typhon Smith profited off the head a little later to level matters.

Maroons secured all the points late when Sbangani Zulu fired into his own net after attempting a defensive-clearance.

SuperSport United 3-5 Golden Arrows

SuperSport United’s title ambitions came crushing down after a 5-3 defeat to Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

Matsatsantsa raced into a two-goal lead courtesy of Siviwe Magidigidi, who netted a quick-fire brace.

Abafana Besthende were back in it as Kwanda Mthembu capitalised on a combination of poor defending by the Tshwane outfit and found the back of the net.

The effort sprung Abafana Besthende into life in the second stanza, as Sfundo Shezi had a second half to remember by scoring four goals to complete the turnaround.

Magesi FC 0-2 Sekhukhune United

Sekhukhune United bounced back from a barren run of form of form to see off Magesi FC 2-0 in a mid-table encounter.

A brace from Sifiso Mazibuko with the goals coming either side of the half was all it took for Babina Noko to collect maximum points on the day.
