The three football superstars are widely considered as the most high-profile footballers in the world contesting for the sports biggest prizes so it comes as no surprise to see them amongst the elite.

In a year where the global pandemic has crippled the global economy and football club's felt the pinch with fans unable to attend games - the earnings of the elite sportsmen haven't slowed down.
How does the rich list work?
Forbes calculated the on-field and off the field earnings which includes their annual salaries, bonuses and sponsorships for the past 12 months between May 2020 to May 2021.
The overall figure doesn't include tax deductions or agent fees in contracts.
Messi drama with Barca
Messi's $97-million (R1.3-billion) from Barcelona which includes bonuses was not affected after handing in a transfer request and signalling his desire to move on from the club.
Along with his lifetime endorsement with Adidas, the Argentina captain also earned heavily with a new clothing line designed by Ginny Hilfiger which took his of the field earnings to $35m (R492m).
This ranked him as the highest-earning footballer in the world for 2021.
